Valparaiso Chile 24 Tons of Fireworks

There is a spectacular Fireworks display that explodes over the harbor of Valparaiso every New Year’s Eve

Celebrating the New Year in the Sea: Every December 31st almost two million people gather in Valparaiso, where the streets, restaurants and balconies facing the bay are teeming with people who have come to welcome the new year with one of the most spectacular fireworks events in the Southern Cone. For over half an hour the fireworks and joy light up the skies of the Fifth Region.
The New Year in the Sea began in 1952 and has become a tradition that has crossed borders. The best views are in the Gervasoni, Yugoslavo, Barón, and 21 de Mayo promenades. The streets become a carnival after the fireworks.Everybody shares embraces and friendship. It is an incredible way to begin a new year.
Partying in the port: The night offers special attractions in Valparaiso: its multiple nightlife spots opening at sundown; young university students and sailors from ships passing through all add to the port’s nightlife.
There are also regular party areas, such as the mythical Subida Ecuador or Subida Cumming, where countless bars and taverns offer music and varied conversation with young locals. If you want more traditional establishments, the bohemian lifestyle remains alive in bars with long traditions, like the mythical Cinzano, and in tango clubs.
The Cultural Carnival: Between Christmas and New Year the port changes and the streets become stages for theater and dance companies, painters, musicians, filmmakers, cooks and folklorists. The three-day Valparaiso cultural carnival has been celebrated since 2001.
It is a veritable street party, with hundreds of thousands of people gathering for the parade to pass with people dressed in vivid colors and fantastic shapes that every year represent different cities around the world. This is the best way to await the New Year fireworks celebration.

The magnificent Chilean fjords

With its almost 1,000 miles of islands, channels and fjords, the Chilean Fjords are comparable in size to the expansive fjord coastline of Norway. This incredibly beautiful part of the country is a magnificent collection of lakes, snow-capped volcanoes, dense forests and thermal springs.
Navigate through a series of channels and fjords, where the variety of hues change with each sunrise and sunset. From lush greens to icy blues and fiery reds, the kaleidoscope of Chile’s natural beauty envelopes us. The flora and fauna is rich and vibrant as are the people who inhabit these remote locales. As explorers, we marvel at the wildlife from Andean condors and Magellanic penguins to sea lions and Orcas. Along hidden forest trails we hike. Majestic mountains and regal glaciers float along the horizon as we way south toward the end of the earth. We are explorers seeking adventure amidst nearly 4,000 miles (6,437 km) of diverse coastline, and an abundant supply of history and culture … a melting pot known as Chile.

Itinerary

Saturday:
12.00 hrs: Set sail from the Skorpios’ Terminal located in Chinquihue km.6. Navigation through Llanquihue’s Archipelago and Queullin’s Pass. Then we will visit Llancahue’s Hot Springs, continuing navigation, to arrive to Quintupeu’s Fjord at 20.00 hrs., place where the German ship “Dresden” dropped anchor in World War I.

Sunday:
Navigation through Hornopirén’s Channel, disembark at Río Negros’ village for a visit. Cross of Ancud’s Gulf and pass through Guar and Mallén Channels, ending our cruise at Skorpios’ Terminal at 18.00.

Attractions:
The beautiful Quintupeu Fjord is located south of Puerto Montt. This place is where the German Ship “SMS Dresden” hid during the Malvinas Battle in the year 1915. The Fjord has a narrow entry and in its natural walls of 600 mts. high, long water falls and alerce trees can bee seen. Some of these trees can have up to 3.600 years of age and they are surrounded by flowers and other species, such as copihue, tepas, ulmos and lengas in the highest areas and here nature gives us an amazing view with volcanoes as the Yates and Hornopiren. The estuary and cliffs’ view is something impressive, unforgettable and touching.
The Llancahué hot springs are located in the same named island, south of the Ciervo’s Island. This hot springs have covered and open air swimming pools and they offer also a fascinating opportunity: take a bath in the Pacific Ocean, where its waters lessens the temperature. From this place we will have an exceptional view of the Llanchid Archipelago at sunset.

We will also visit the Rio Negro town, a peaceful and quaint village of this area. Its wooden houses, made of alerce’s shingles, have shade colors that contrast gladly with the green vegetation of the place. In this village you will be able to walk down their streets.

The whole area is known because of the presence of Andean Glaciers and geological faults that conduced to the glacier erosion. Get on board and enjoy this weekend Cruise, were gastronomy and the landscape will be at your service.

The first stop after leaving the village of Hanga Roa will be the bay of Hanga Te’e and the not restored platform of Ahu Vaihu. We will see how a culture built over hundreds of years, was totally destroyed by its own people in a very short time.
Then we proceed along the south coast towards the volcano Rano Raraku where we visit the “Moai factory”. We can still see there 397 statues in different stages of completion, some erected, some almost sunk in waiting for their transport, some still lying unfinished on the volcanic rock. From Rano Raraku you can already see the next highlight, Ahu Tongariki. This platform is from the most recent restoration, 1991-1995, and as you will see, it is the most impressive, a construction of almost 300 mts. in length. Fifteen statues, the tallest almost 10 mts high, were re-erected, the heaviest weighing aprox. 87 tons. One Moai is still wearing his Pukao, the topknot. Box Lunch Included.
Next we proceed to the east coast and “The navel of the world” with Ahu Te Pito Kura. Last but not least we will take you to the beautiful beaches of Ovahe and finally to Anakena. The area is surrounded by palm trees, white corral sand and one of the most beautiful restored platforms, Ahu Nau Nau, with seven Moais, four of them with Pukaos, as well as Ahu Ature Huki with one restored statue. The village consists of 53 restored houses built with flagstone and used by representatives of the tribes during ceremonies related to the bird man competition. At Mata Ngarahu we will see rocks with more than 300 petroglyphs of Tangata Manu, the god Make Make and others. There is an outstanding view to the three islets: Motu Iti, Motu Mui and Kao Kao, situated opposite Orongo in the ocean.
Our guide will share all that is known about the Tangata Manu, the competitors’ swim to Moto Nui, where they risked their lives to get to the egg of the Sooty Tern and swim back with it to win a chance at their tribe’s power over the whole island for one year. On the way back to the village we visit the cave of Ana Kai Tangata with paintings of marine birds. Classic & Modern: Portillo Unique Ski Experience, Chile

Portillo is the most ancient and probably the most prestigious ski resort in South America. Only 40 kilometers separate it from the base of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Southern hemisphere. In the very heart of the Andes Mountain Range, 2,850 meters over sea level, Portillo or “narrow path” was the main pass between Argentina and Chile, first crossed by mules and horses and then by the trans-Andean train, which made one of the most spectacular tours on railways. After the international route was inaugurated, the train journeys were discontinued during the 1970’s, thus losing this marvelous experience.

Ski weeks in Portillo are designed to allow guests the opportunity to ski, relax, let go of worry and enjoy their ski resort experience as it is nowhere else in the world.  Portillo is a place free of commercial expansion and distractions.  There is no town, no shopping centers and no Starbucks.  There is one big yellow hotel, one beautiful ski mountain, 400 guests, and 450 energetic and smiling employees to ensure a care-free vacation for our guests.

Ski Portillo is ranked as one of the top 10 ski resorts in the world by Ski Magazine, Warren Miller Entertainment, and the Travel Channel.
Portillo’s expert runs are so steep that they require a special, two-of-a-kind lift.  Skiers and boarders can traverse to unbelievable terrain such as the steep, powdery Primavera Run. It was on one of these expert runs that the 200km speed barrier was broken.

Portillo’s skiers are left in bliss with endless untracked powder, often for days, and also has some of the best bluebird spring conditions we have seen.
Days are yours, free to explore the open slopes with your guides, via the 13 chair lifts, hiking the “Super C” and other chutes above the mystical Inca Lake.

Portillo is located 164 kilometers from Santiago, or approximately 2 hours by car. The road to Portillo is scenic and safe.  During the last 60 years, Portillo has gained a reputation for being one of the most unique ski and snowboard areas of the world.  Enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners to experts, can enjoy Portillo.

Portillo Top Charming Service
Portillo not only strives to provide the best skiing possible, but also prides itself  on its service.  They have better than a 1:1 staff to guest ratio and make it their duty to personalize the service down to the most minor detail.

You may be surprised at first when your waiter has your favorite breakfast dish waiting for you when you enter the dining room, or when the boot check guy grabs your shoes without seeing your ticket.  But you’ll get used to it.  If you’re in a bind and need a seam stitched up or a button sewn back on, a housekeeper can help – they live on each floor.  And when you find yourself chatting about snow conditions with the Owner and General Manager on welcome night, you will know that this ski vacation is going to be something unique and special.  Their great service runs throughout their staff and management.

Lastly, as a rule of thumb in Portillo, if you need anything just ask.  You will always find a smiling face eager to help.

Valle Nevado ski resort just 37 miles from Santiago’s international airport amidst incredibly breathtaking landscapes in the Andes Mountains, it has some of the highest quality snow in Chile, because of its location at 3 thousand meters of height. The top of the resort is at a soaring 3,658 metres above sea level, but it sits amidst peaks that are 6,000 metres high, so it seems reasonable to say that the ski resort is in a “valley”. With the helicopter pad directly at the Valle Nevado Resort, you only need to walk outside to take advantage of this once in a lifetime flight into the Andes. Special gear is available at the Ski Rental, and discounts are offered to guests.

Valle Nevado is also known for it’s impressive off-slope skiing and snowboarding.  Easy access to these places will bring you even closer to the mountain experience.

Ski and Snowboard Terrain The skiing and boarding area at Valle Nevado is vast to say the least. With treeless terrain, only 12 lifts and 102 trails spread across the large area, the number of potential off-piste lines is infinite. And then there are the backcountry possibilities. Valle Nevado is also interlinked with the ski resorts of La Parve and El Colorado (and Farellones), and with a multi-resort lift ticket this adds another 1,421 hectares of fun.

Staying at Valle Nevado does not come cheaply but the hotel accommodation packages have many inclusions such as lift tickets, breakfast, dinner and access to quality facilities.
